Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe the holidays are over and we are starting 2002. As many of you already know, we put our web site up last fall and it‘s really taken off. Thanks for all the compliments you have sent. If you have any suggestions for improvement, please e-mail those to us too. It took me 3 years to talk John into it, but now he spends most of his day in front of the computer. It‘s the first thing he checks when he comes in and the last thing he checks when he leaves. While we don’t plan on the web site replacing our newsletter, we do send out notices and various tidbits of information periodically on the internet - especially if the information is time sensitive. Fenton’s 2002 Honor Collection - Trailing Floral on Rosalene
Rosalene glass has a glossy finish and shades from a deep pink to almost white. Rosalene was originally introduced in 1976 by Fenton after they spent many years developing the color. The secret to Rosalene is the pure gold in the formula which enables the glass to become a lovely pink color wherever it has been cooled and then reheated in the forming process. This years collection is decorated with fuschia colored stylized flowers which are framed in a cascade of heart-shaped green leaves and tiny white berries. If you like pink, you’ll love this collection. There are a total of 6 pieces - a 6" vase, 3" rose bowl and 5" cat. I saw it last May at the convention in Oregon and it’s just as beautiful now as then.

Many of you have ordered pieces from Fenton’s Stars & Stripes Collection. The last day dealers could order this from Fenton was December 25th. We still have a few of all 5 pieces left, so if you want any of the original collection - act fast because once it’s gone - it’s gone!

Fenton also made the Top Hat in cobalt blue and white with a ruby ring for their sales reps. There were about 300 made. They were given to about 88 reps at the national sales meeting in early Dec. There were 211 left and we have some coming. If you want this color variation - Call today and reserve yours. The cost is $75 and we don’t expect these to last long.

Spring has arrived!

You may not agree if you’re in Buffalo, NY under 6 feet of snow, but it’s arrived at Whistlestop! We just received the Fenton 2002 Early Spring shipment and all of the Mary Gregory Style on Cranberry pieces and the Heart Optic Basket are here. Also the new turtles and frogs which Jon Saffell designed last year, and Fenton’s new Blue Topaz Color and the Cottage Roses on French Opalescent Collection. Late spring is scheduled to arrive in late January which will include the Folk Art Animals. There are 3 styles of standing roosters, 2 rooster boxes and a hand painted rooster on an egg. There’s also a Bunny egg cup and bunny box. All done in black glass with white polka dots on the main part of the body and highlighted with "Mustard" yellow tail and neck feathers and and deep red combs. Really different - but polka dots are in now.

Fenton’s New Sunset Stretch
And
Baroque Floral on Sunset Overlay
(2002 Historic Collection)

I can hardly wait to see this color in person! It is based on the old Velva Rose color from the 1920’s. The color ranges from peachy-pink and orange blush to the beige-gold or twilight. Like the sunset, the shades vary and each piece is unique.

The Sunset Stretch Collection has a special blend of metallic salts sprayed on the hot glass before the piece is reheated and flared to its final shape. As the finisher flares the Glass, it stretches the metal coating resulting the captivating "stretch" look. This collection has 9 pieces including a 14 Pc. Punch Bowl in the "Panelled Grape" Pattern. Also in grapes is a covered candy box and vase. There is also an elephant, perfume, basket and bell.

Two of the Sunset Stretch pieces are hand painted with the Baroque Floral Design. They are a 9" Diamond Optic Footed Basket and a 5 1/4" Dolphin Comport which is inscribed with George Fenton’s Signature.

Baroque Floral on Sunset Overlay - To create this delicate color, Fenton encased creamy milk glass in a thin layer of Sunset colored glass. This is truly magnificent. The hand painted floral decoration is a swirl of stylized flowers with muted green leaves. The color of the flower is "winterberry cream" in which the petals are shades of plum with the edges highlighted in white. Really pretty! There are 5 pieces which make up 2002’s Historic Collection. (Historic Collections have a limited production time of one year).

Other 2002 Fenton Highlights

Designer Bells - "Desert Moon" features a coyote howling at the moon rendered in iridescent paints on black. The effect captures the mystical power of the desert in all its splendor.
"Magical Meadow" is a Favrene bell with graceful horses graze in splendor under silvery trees. The background of this bell is cobalt and the sand carved design is pure silver. The other 2 designer bells, "Butterfly Breeze" (pink) and "Enchantment" (Blue) are more traditional floral designs.

Four Seasons Basket Collection - New this year and a must for all the Basket Collectors! Fenton has introduced a new basket for each season. "Spring" is Tulips and Violets on Pink Chiffon Glass, "Summer" is Daisies on Blue Topaz Satin Glass. These are both available in Feb. 2001. "Fall" is Berries and Leaves on Black Glass and "Winter" is Ruby with White Floral. The later 2 will be available in July. They range in size from 8" to 11" and are all hand painted with really pretty designs indicative of the Season.

Other New Colors for 2002 - Blue Topaz and Blue Topaz Overlay, Amethyst Carnival, Cottage Roses on French Opalescent, Daisy Lane (French Opalescent Glass highlighted with Pink Chiffon), Dotted Swiss on Willow Green Satin, Dreamy Violets (on white Satin Glass), Lots of new pieces to Cranberry Opalescent Hobnail Collection, Tiger Lily is the pattern added to the Safari Collection and Inspirations which is a Firefly design on Violet Glass.
