Memorial Day has come and gone so that must mean it’s summer. Another sign of summer is that we just received our June Supplements to Fenton’s 2002 Catalog. This has some new introductions to their regular line as well as the Connoisseur and Centennial Collections. All of these items are up on our web site at www.the-whistlestop.com. Some of the highlights from the regular line are a 8” Diamond Lace Epergne and 6” Water Nymph in Sunset Stretch; Patriotic Heart and Star paperweights and COIN DOT. Opalescent Coin Dot is back in 3 colors Willow Green, Blue Topaz and Violet. There are 4 pieces in each grouping – 2 vases, hat basket and student lamp. There’s also some new moulds which Jon Saffell designed for Halloween – Ghost, Cat and Witch. These are really cute! Fenton is also continuing the “Inspirations” line. This new collection is designed by Stacy Williams and is a bumblebee flying through a sun drenched field of daisies. The inscription reads “Those who love the Lord shine as the sun.” There’s a lot more but these are some of the highlights!

Fenton’s 2002 Connoisseur Collection

I want it all!! That’s what I said when I saw this years Connoisseur Collection. Every single piece is exquisite and a work of art in its own right. I think my favorite is between the Cranberry Opalescent Coin Dot Ginger Jar and the Burmese Gone with the Wind Lamp that has the sparrow and berries painted on it. Then again, there’s the Burmese Vase with the Hummingbird and Fuchsia decoration and the Favrene Feather Vase. (We collect all the favrene pieces and 12 family signature pieces.) I guess that means I should get this years piece which is a 3 piece Guest Set in Topaz Opalescent with a black handle for the pitcher. It has a lemon decoration on it and the bottom of the glass is decorated as a lemon slice. (The glass actually fits inside the mouth of the pitcher.)

And then there’s the Mulberry Vase with the "Evening Vine" decoration that is just luscious . It shades from violet to azure blue and has a white flower with a violet center on it. The Royal Purple Basket is also gorgeous. It’s my favorite shape and has a lovely floral design by Frances Burton. Such decisions! I’ve been looking at this brochure for over a week now and I still don’t think I could pick just one piece. Fenton has truly created an outstanding collection for 2002.

All of these pieces are shown on our main Fenton page.

Fenton Jamboree Recap

The Fenton Finders of Puget Sound had another excellent Jamboree (convention) the end of April in Portland. It was great to see everyone and we even had some attendees from Missouri who had heard about it on the Internet. It’s always nice to see new collectors and meet new Fenton Fanatics.

Our two speakers from Fenton were Dave Fetty and Frances Burton. Dave has retired from Fenton 3 times, but keeps coming back. He is the person who knows how to do the pulled feather technique which is featured in this years Connoisseur line. (Favrene Feather Vase). Frances is one of the Designers for the decorating department and is responsible for many of the beautiful decorations which are on the Fenton Glass. I won one of the door prizes which Frances brought with her. Was I ever excited when I opened it up and it was a Favrene Ginger Jar which she had painted specifically for the convention. The auction had many exciting pieces and John and I bought the sample piece for the Favrene Pulled Feather Vase which Dave had brought along with him. Since we collect Favrene, I was really happy on Saturday night.

It was a great 3 days and we look forward to it every year. We will be back in Eugene, Oregon June 21st and 22nd, for the Pacific Northwest Fenton Convention. Stop on by and say hi.

Our Biggest Family Signing Event Yet!

On Saturday May 4th, George Fenton was here for our Family signing Event. This is the 5th family member we’ve had — Tom, Don, Mike, and Scott have been here before If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting any of the Fentons, then you know they are the nicest, most pleasant people you’ll ever meet. However, they are very competitive and each one wants to have a better event than anyone who has been here before. So since George is the President, we couldn’t let him down and thanks to you — our loyal customers — we surpassed all other events. We had a lot of fun and people came from all over Northern California. It was great to see everybody.

For those of you, who live in the Mid-west and East, we will be at both of the National Fenton Conventions in August. So if you plan on attending, be sure and look us up.

Atttention Lighthouse Collectors!

The day before the Fenton event, Bill Younger, Founder of Harbour Lights Lighthouses, paid us a surprise visit! He happened to be in the area and just stopped by to see how things were going. While he was here, he personally signed all of the lighthouses on the floor. So if you’re looking for a special gift, now’s the time to get a lighthouse. (We have over 200 different one’s in stock and all of the retired one’s are 20% off! We can e-mail or send a list of which ones we have available. Just call 1-800-335-3631.

Fenton Christmas 2002

We know it’s a long time ‘til Christmas, but Fenton will start shipping product this month. And there are lots of people who collect Santas and Snowmen. So we wanted to let you know what’s coming.

One of the most special pieces this year is "Jingles", the new Snowman Fairy Light designed by Jon Saffell! There‘s also an Americana Snow couple decorated in red, white and blue. The Snowman’s scarf and the Snow Woman’s purse are decorated to resemble our Flag. There are also 3 more pieces to the "Jolly Snowman" collection on Cobalt Glass.

In the Santa category, there is a musical Americana Santa who plays America the Beautiful and comes with a wooden base. He has a light blue coat with a lighthouse on it and he’s carrying a red and white bag over his shoulder. There’s also a Country Santa in warm golds, greens and reds with a heart and vine decoration. Both of these pieces are Limited Editions.

Fenton’s Centennial Collection

The countdown to Fenton’s 100th birthday continues with the 3rd installment of the Centennial Collection. (Fenton will be 100 years old in 2005). This years pieces are a Favrene Tobacco Jar signed by Christine Fenton and a lovely coral vase with autumn leaves signed by Shelly Fenton.
